Of course, the schedule is full of traditional favorites, including new productions of Bizet’s Carmen and Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, and revivals of long-treasured classics by Mozart, Wagner, Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, and Gluck. Included are four Met premieres: Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, based on the book by Sister Helen Prejean Anthony Davis’s X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, written in the 1980s and based on the life of the civil rights leader Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas, which will be the Met's first opera in Spanish in nearly a century and John Adams’s nativity oratorio, El Niño.
